AxLabs has deployed the complete Ax402 stack on Neo X, giving developers a live payment infrastructure to monetize REST APIs, gate resources behind a stablecoin paywall, and let AI agents pay each other programmatically. Payments settle on a per-request basis using supported tokens including USDC and xGAS.

The release of the Ax402 stack marks its move from the initial July launch, covered by NNT, to a full production deployment. Ax402 is built on x402, an open protocol that repurposes the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code as the trigger for machine-to-machine payments. When Ax402 first launched on Neo X in July, the gateway integrated through xGAS, a wrapped GAS token deployed by Bane Labs for x402 payments, providing a Neo-native settlement option alongside the protocol’s broader USDC support.

USDC settlement on Neo X became possible one day before this announcement, when USDC.e and WETH arrived on the network through Chainlink’s CCIP-powered Transporter bridge on Sept. 14.

What it enables

Ax402 addresses a friction point in machine-to-machine commerce: AI agents and API consumers currently lack a standard way to pay for resources on a per-request basis without accounts, subscriptions, or checkout flows.

For example, a research agent could pay for a single query to a premium data API, a coding agent could pay to run a specialized security scan, or one AI agent could pay another for a translation or data-analysis task.

With the stack live on Neo X, a developer can charge USDC or xGAS for a single API call, place any data feed or content behind a payment gate, or build an AI agent that autonomously pays another agent for tools or data. Each transaction is settled on-chain without human intervention.

The Ax402 stack

The full Ax402 deployment includes five components:

  • Gateway and Dashboard: The central interface for configuring and managing payment-gated resources.
  • Facilitators: The on-chain settlement layer, live on both Neo X MainNet and a TestNet-sandbox environment, allowing developers to build and test without switching infrastructure.
  • SDKs: Client libraries for Go, TypeScript, and Python, covering the most common server-side and scripting environments.
  • CLI tool and MCP Server: The MCP Server extends Ax402 into agent frameworks that support it, enabling programmatic payment flows within AI pipelines.
  • React Paywall: A front-end component that places a stablecoin payment gate in front of any web resource, ready to drop into an existing React application.

Developers can sign up and access the gateway at ax402.io. Full documentation is available at docs.ax402.io.
