R3E Network has released neo-js v0.1.8, a TypeScript-native SDK for Neo N3 that adds JavaScript to the organization’s growing multi-language developer toolkit. Jimmy Liao, Neo core developer and R3E Network founder, announced the release on March 16, positioning it as a complement to COZ’s established neon-js rather than a competitor.
The SDK arrives as the latest entry in R3E’s effort to provide Neo N3 development tools across mainstream programming languages, following releases for Rust, Swift, and Solidity.
Capabilities and design
Written in TypeScript from the ground up, neo-js covers core Neo N3 functionality including transaction construction, wallet management with NEP-6 and NEP-2 support, a script builder for smart contract interaction, and a typed RPC client spanning standard node methods as well as plugin-specific endpoints for state services and token tracking.
The SDK ships with only two runtime dependencies, one of which is COZ’s own neon-core for cryptographic primitives, keeping the package lightweight while reusing battle-tested code rather than reimplementing it.
Liao stated in his announcement:
“Please allow me to introduce @r3e/neo-js, a light weight neo n3 js sdk. Not a replacement of @cityofzion/neon-js, but for ultra lightweight tasks as part of our plan to deliver a consistent SDK experience for all mainstream programming languages.”
COZ’s neon-js is the long-established JavaScript SDK for Neo with years of production use, extensive plugins, and broad community support. R3E’s offering targets developers who need a minimal-footprint option or who are already working across R3E’s SDK family and value the shared design patterns between them.
Current status
The SDK is available on npm and GitHub under an MIT license. Liao pushed the codebase past 90% test coverage ahead of the public release, including live validation against Neo TestNet nodes.
