War on Bugs, a single-player strategy game built on Neo X, has released a major update introducing NFT functionality and several quality-of-life enhancements to the game’s user interface.

The game blends procedurally generated maze exploration, card-based combat, and character progression, and now incorporates on-chain asset integration as part of its evolving gameplay. The latest update enables players to mint in-game characters and consumables as NFTs, offering new levels of customization and permanence.

NFT Integration

Character NFTs can be minted directly from the inventory screen. Once minted, characters receive randomized stat variations and perks, making each NFT a unique asset. Character skins are now visually linked to their NFT variants, with both cosmetic appearance and gameplay attributes locked at the time of minting. These character NFTs can be used in gameplay or traded, and the in-game representation of the character is replaced with the NFT variant once the mint is completed.

During the beta phase, players will begin with access to a set of default characters, including Professor Dashboard, Snakey, and the World of Elements Instructor. Additional characters may be acquired through the shop using TestNet tokens, which can be requested from the game’s leadership, SnakeyRob or NeoDashboard, on Discord.

In addition to characters, consumable items can now be transformed into permanent NFT versions. By collecting 10 of the same consumables, players can mint them into an NFT. Unlike standard items, these NFT versions are not consumed and discarded during use, offering a strategic advantage. Minting requests are time-limited but can be canceled before expiration, returning the original items to the player’s inventory.

UI Improvements

The update also introduces several UI improvements. The in-game shop has been redesigned for better clarity, with a clear separation between characters and consumables. Token balances are now displayed consistently across panels, and error or alert messages are presented via modal windows for a smoother user experience.

Inventory management has also been refined. Players can now filter and group items more effectively, with minting statuses, such as pending or expired requests, clearly indicated. Interactions for minting, canceling, or opening items now utilize modal dialogs, providing clearer feedback. Both character and item NFTs include visible stats and perks within their respective detail panels.

The Hall of Fame leaderboard has been expanded to reflect new statistics. Players can now track additional metrics, including the most games played in a day, the highest score in a single session, the most NFTs minted, and the longest login streak.

This update marks a significant step in integrating blockchain-based assets into gameplay while improving user navigation and feature visibility across the interface.
