Correction: Since the article was published, a CEX.io PR officer has reached out to NNT and requested we note that “NEO and GAS are currently available to all non-US residents only,” and did not offer a date when they will become available to US residents. Additionally, list of states that have pending Money Transmitter Licenses (MTL) has been amended, with CEX.io noting they have acquired MTLs from 21 states.

CEX.io, a UK-based custodial exchange established in 2013, has announced it is listing NEO and GAS, which will have pairings against the US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), and British Pound (GBP). Along with fiat currency pairings, exchange users will be able to convert fiat to NEO or GAS via credit card (Visa or Mastercard), ACH direct deposit, or wire transfers.

On January 14th, NEO and GAS deposits opened, as did the NEO/USD and GAS/USD trading markets, and the ability to convert fiat to NEO or GAS.

On January 17th, NEO/EUR and GAS/EUR pairings are expected to open.

Lastly, on January 21st, NEO/GBP and GAS/GBP pairs are planned launch.

Impact for US Residents

In July 2019, CEX.io opened an office in the US and has since acquired MTLs in 21 states, but can operate in an additional 17 states that don’t require an MTL. The listing of NEO and GAS on CEX.io will eventually open an additional fiat-to-crypto onramp for residents in the US.

CEX.io intends to offer services to all 50 states and is currently awaiting responses to pending MTL applications from Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Note: On January 10th, South Carolina granted an MTL to CEX.io.
