The NeoDashboard team has announced the cessation of development on two ecosystem projects, the NDMEME meme token initiative and the War on Bugs game, signaling a departure from Neo-related activities. Concurrently, a GrantShares DAO proposal to remove the team as voting members has garnered mixed support, with voting scheduled to conclude on Feb. 2.
In an open statement shared by the developers, NeoDashboard and Snakey Rob, the team framed the decision as a response to the current state of the ecosystem and the inability to identify a viable path forward for both projects at this time.
GrantShares departure and community dynamics
A central factor cited in the decision to deprecate the projects was the team’s standing with the GrantShares DAO, a governance body within the Neo ecosystem. The developers opted to withdraw from active voting membership in the DAO due to interactions within the DAO. The announcement stated they were “largely met with annoyed and dismissive responses rather than the support needed to succeed.”
The proposal to revoke their voting rights has reached quorum and currently shows four votes in support and three abstentions at the time of press, with the vote period closing on Feb. 2.
Broader ecosystem concerns
The statement further linked the development halt to perceived instability surrounding Neo’s leadership, referencing recent public fallout between Neo’s co-founders that the team said has contributed to leadership uncertainty. Without clarity on the direction of Neo Global Development or broader organizational leadership, the team indicated it could not justify continued investment of time and resources.
Further compounding their outlook, the group described the adoption and activity of Neo X as underwhelming, asserting that the EVM sidechain failed to attract the users or dApps necessary for the NDMEME and War on Bugs projects to grow. As a result, the team plans to sunset operations of the websites for both projects, pending ecosystem improvements and clearer forward paths.
The announcement also cited instances of harassment tied to social media responses, particularly around the Neo leadership situation, describing the environment as “toxic” and detrimental to the team’s motivation to remain involved in the ecosystem.
Commitment to supporters
Despite withdrawing from active development, the team outlined ongoing commitments to the community and project holders:
- Liquidity: The team stated it will not remove liquidity from associated pools.
- Buyback and Burn: They will continue executing scheduled buyback and burn operations for the NDMEME token.
- Joker NFT Refunds: Holders of the Joker NFT who seek refunds are directed to coordinate via direct message with Snakey Rob.
“We honestly wanted to see this game go live,” the announcement concluded, “but we must prioritize a stable and professional environment.”
