Neo has announced the shutdown schedule for its Neo Legacy public networks. The Neo Legacy TestNet will be halted on June 1, and MainNet operations will end on Oct. 31.

Before the Neo Legacy networks are brought to a close, snapshots will be taken to preserve the historical state and archive essential data. After the halt, users will no longer be able to use the network.

Neo Legacy

Neo Legacy was originally launched as AntShares, with its genesis block produced on July 15, 2016. The project rebranded to Neo in 2017 alongside its “2.0” upgrade, signaling the beginning of its Smart Economy vision.

In 2019, the Neo core developers released dBFT 2.0 to improve network stability and block finality. The network’s transition toward Neo N3 was initiated with the release of the N3 migration plan in 2021.

Over its lifetime, the Neo Legacy network produced more than 14 million blocks, processed over 281 million transactions, and supported nearly 3 million addresses.

Asset migration

The shutdown will also mark the end of the migration process for Neo Legacy tokens to Neo N3. Users must migrate tokens such as NEO, GAS, FLM, FTX, pONT, and Flamingo-wrapped USDT, WBTC, and WETH before the shutdown date.

NEO and GAS can be migrated using the official portal or trusted third-party solutions, such as the COZ migration service available in Neon Wallet. Supported NEP-5 assets should be migrated using the nepmigration service.

Shutdown notes

Neo will coordinate with centralized exchanges to manage custodial assets on Neo Legacy. Tokens remaining on Neo Legacy after Oct. 31 will be permanently lost.

Consensus node operators are advised to shut down their nodes following the respective TestNet and MainNet shutdown dates. Maintainers of Legacy-based smart contracts can seek support via the Neo Discord server to migrate their dApps.
