A NEO meetup is being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 12th, 2018. The event will focus on the practical applications for blockchain technology, with presentations from members of the NEO community such as NeoResearch and Simplipay, as well as the ITS Mudamos platform. A live workshop focusing on creating smart contracts will be held after the presentations have concluded. This will be the first NEO event to be held in Brazil.

One of NEO’s development groups, NEOResearch will represent the ecosystem at the event. The NEOResearch team is chaired by Vitor Coelho and Igor Coelho, both Brazilian researchers. The group intends to apply its scientific knowledge on debugging, optimization and hypercomputing to provide support for NEO blockchain technology. Vitor and Igor will be responsible for organizing the workshop on smart contract programming.

NEO senior manager of research and development, Malcolm Lerider, and NEO global business development manager, Tamar Salant will be on hand to present an introduction to NEO.

SimpliPay will also speak at the event. The team won first place in the hackathon held at the NEO Loves Amsterdam event held in the Netherlands. Their vision is to consolidate a digital marketplace for producers, retailers, and consumers.

ITS Rio is an independent, non-profit research institute that was formed to identify the opportunities for emerging technologies and their use.

The event will be conducted in English and has a capacity of 60 people. The target audience is not restricted to developers, and attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet for hands on activities.
