The SOMNIUMWAVE 3D open-world multiplayer platform is designed to create an experience that rewards players for owning SOMNIUMWAVE NFTs and for interacting with other users within the metaverse. The project received an Excellence Award in the recent Neo Polaris Launchpad.
The SOMNIUMWAVE game was developed and is maintained by a Neo community NFT artist, Sergio Avila. Avila joined the Neo ecosystem in Feb. 2021 through the digital artwork series, NEO Everyday. Examples of Avila’s artwork include the NeoDashboard daily reports and various other NFT series.
The SOMNIUMWAVE platform combines two of Avila’s passions, video games and art, and serves to connect the Neo community. In a conversation with NNT about his inspiration, he said:
After a while of building static 3D scenes, I felt comfortable enough to start porting it over to a realtime gaming engine, and from there I just knew this is where it was gonna head for sure. It just seemed to all fit together at the right time, so I went for it. My vision is always changing in the micro, but overall I see SOMNIUMWAVE as a portal to build deeper, more meaningful connections with people and communities. I think live events will be a pretty big thing as well as an interesting place to create different opportunities and experiences for yourself. But I imagine it will be a very special realm for the NEO community to enjoy, which I will try my hardest to always constantly evolve.
The project received a multiplier of 1.3x in the Polaris Planathon and an equivalent of US $10,400 in prizes for the Excellence Award.
About SOMNIUMWAVE
The 3D metaverse was designed to offer a place for Neo ecosystem community members to congregate, interact, and share their NFT collections. One way Avila intends to connect users is through NFT auction houses.
Through player profile databases, the 3D world can easily integrate user wallet information and NFTs that represent in-game assets (i.e., access to plots of land, buildings) for a seamless gaming experience. Plots of land in the SOMNIUMWAVE universe are represented as AREA NFTs. These plots will serve as the foundation for in-game buildings and art galleries, which can be used to showcase SOMNIUMWAVE NFTs. Owners of SENTIENT NFTs will receive an AREA NFT, which will reserve the owner a plot of land in the 3D world.
Initially, Avila intends to prepare 200 plots for the opening of the game. He said, “These plots are going to be individually designed by me, as I’m trying to stray away from algorithmically generated terrains. Everything has to be totally unique for each plot owner.”
To ensure a smooth and optimized browser experience, SOMNIUMWAVE will utilize low poly mesh for buildings, objects, characters, and landscapes. In 3D modeling, a smaller number of polygons used to build graphics allows for quicker rendering of animated figures and other special effects. Initial browser support will include Chome, Firefox, and Brave.
The game is being built using the Unity engine, with plans for a separate Windows and OSx builder for higher-end machines to offer improved visual fidelity. This standalone version will offer a notable improvement in graphics, integrated chat, and potentially other features like campaigns and story modes.
Currently, the SOMNIUMWAVE game is still in the alpha building stage. However, users can access and use the demo on the SOMNIUMWAVE website.
Post-Polaris
The SOMNIUMWAVE development team recently held a SOM NEP-17 token trading competition on the Flamingo DeFi platform. Thirty million SOM tokens were distributed to participants. Further, the team has allocated 1% of the team’s SOM token supply to the LRB Fund, which LRB token holders can claim access to in two years.
