NEO Global Development (NGD) has released its monthly report for August. The report format has been modified to be more modular, and features sections for highlights, development progress, community news, events and general progress. An infographic version can be found at the bottom of this article.

The report opened with news regarding the NEO Blockchain Game Development Competition, which was hosted by NewEconoLabs (NEL) and supported by NGD. Over 200 developers registered around the world, with 39 game entries submitted.

The award ceremony was held in Shanghai, with CardMaker being awarded Best Game and receiving the RMB 800,000 prize in GAS. CardMaker combines card games with an RPG setting, and allows users to solve puzzles and create their own cards in order to advance through the game.

Near the end of the monthly report, NGD also noted that NEO founder, Da Hongfei, and NGD general manager, Johnson Zhao, visited Japan, where they met with several politicians and industry leaders.

Amongst these was Japan’s state minister for financial services, who praised the dBFT consensus mechanism. The Ministry of Finance of Japan has also indicated an interest in exploring future cooperation with NEO. More information and other meetings with Japanese officials are documented in the full report.

Development Progress

The development section highlighted core protocol and other general updates, along with some proposed solutions for the spam attacks. To minimize the network attacks, a minimum transaction fee of 0.001 GAS has been proposed, which could be raised to 0.01 GAS if it proves ineffective. This proposal is still under discussion, and NGD will negotiate with exchanges and other ecosystem infrastructures before setting any transaction fees.

NEO-CLI 3.0 preview is currently being tested, which includes a fix to repeated validation of transactions in the mempool. If the testing goes well, this will be merged into the master branch and released as NEO-CLI v2.9.

The other core updates and general updates can be found in the report here.

NGD has also opened the #suggestion channel on the NEO Discord and a suggestion mailbox (suggestion@neo.org) for any community recommendations or feedback. Each month, selected suggestions will be addressed in the monthly report in an effort to improve communication.
